Obviously the Allen couple must have been consumed with hatred against Atty. Bander to prompt them to spend a huge amount sending Mr. Laigo to Manila and bribed his way for a Hold Departure Order against the lawyer.

I used to be the senior reporter of Balita (midweek and weekend) newspaper under Mr. Saspa, Mr. Laigo’s predecessor. I worked my butt off trying to help make the Balita newspaper competitive by providing actual community news — many of them front page stories — compared with the usual Manila articles downloaded from online publications in most of the other newspapers.

I don’t believe that Balita is interested in the cause of justice. Saspa and I were summarily fired from our jobs without due process just because one guy didn’t like the way I wrote one story. And I know the Allens are tight with finances and would not have spent that much for Mr. Laigo’s mission unless there were ulterior motives. For example, one time I was assigned to cover a story in San Francisco. I had to take the evening Greyhound round trip because I was told by the editor that the pbublication would not reimburse even a single night hotel stay.
