To this day, there is no clear light on why the much popularized courtship of Gerald Anderson on pop icon Sarah Geronimo was cut short. There are some who say that Anderson was already hitched to someone based in Cebu while others say that it was the parent’s disapproval on the popular teen idol.
The Gerald-Sarah love team seemed to have been going strong, expectedly something that would start a new era of love tandems in the entertainment industry. Sadly, it seems that fantasy was not meant to happen.
After an emotional “Sarah G, Live!” episode last July 29 where Sarah Geronimo’s parents were the special guests of the show.
Sarah confirmed rumors that Gerald stopped courting here but denied that her mom, Mommy Divine had a hand on it.
However, both Mommy Divine and Sarah’s dad (Daddy Delfin), shared that everything was gossip and that they had formally talked to Gerald and said that he could formally court Sarah but only at their home.
Mommy Divine laid out the ground rules for Gerald on courting Sarah, adding that they are the ones who are on the raw end because their child is the girl.
And then there was the issue of Gerald having a girlfriend based in Cebu which practically killed all hopes of making the Sarah-Gerald fantasy into a reality, crushing the fans of both celebrities who had hoped something would have materialized between the two popular icons.
Mommy Divine was quoted as saying:
“Magiging firm ako sa stand ko (I will stand firm on my decision)”.
Now here is where the controversy set in. To which was Mommy Divine pertaining to?
Was it for Gerald having an existing girlfriend in Cebu or was it laying down the ground rules on how to court Sarah?
This is apparently the critical question going on around the minds of the many followers of Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson.
It could be any of the two and weighing both counts seems to be a hard one.
Should it be because of Gerald’s alleged Cebu girlfriend, the intervention of Sarah’s parents, particularly her mom, is only to be expected.
“Nirerespeto namin kayo pero respetuhin mo rin kami. Kasi babae ang anak ko (We respect you but you should also respect us because our child is a girl”, Mommy Divine said during an interview.
On the other hand, there is also the twist on the ground rules being laid by the parents – something that is no longer surprising for many who have followed Sarah Geronimo.
Mommy Divine has been known to be a strict mother, closely monitoring her daughter to ensure her safety and success. Many believe it may be a way bit too much but for mothers who have daughters, the directive is quite understandable.
For her part, Sarah apologized to her parents tearfully and promised to do her best and appreciate the guidance that her parents are strictly implementing on her.
Before Gerald started to court Sarah, the hunky actor had a popular relationship with another popular teen actress, Kim Chiu. Both were contestants during the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition and worked together in Firs Day High (2006) and Till My Heartaches End (2010).
For his part, Gerald Anderson has chosen to keep quiet on the issue for now.
Spotted during the Star Magic Games held at the Celebrity Sports Plaza in Quezon City last Suday (July 29, 2012), Gerald simply replied “Huwag na muna ‘yan (Not now).”
Gerald has since departed for Egypt, reportedly taking a week-long vacation to spend time with his family situated over there.
Anderson however said that he will tackle all the issues in due time. Apparently he was referring to the timing of the questions since he was in the middle of the celebration of Star Magic.
His departure has likewise drawn mixed reactions, apparently to the timing of his botched supposed romance with Sarah Geronimo. But then again, any man is entitled to a break and obviously this one is long overdue and not just a spur of the moment scheduled respite.
He is likewise expected to get the guidance from his folks, particularly his father who is in Egypt. Gerald bares that everyone goes through tough times.
For Gerald’s part, he considers this setback a part of the trials of life. And it is during these times where guys like Gerald (no matter how hunky and tough he may seem) would readily welcome the advice and guidance his folks can give.
Apart from visiting his family, Gerald may also be bound for Israel where he plans to strengthen his faith and seek God’s guidance as well.
Given these facts, it looks like there are more things left out in the reports between Sarah and Gerald. But for now, the only official word is that the courtship is off.
On how deep the setback is for both stars is anybody’s guess. Sarah was pushed to tears while Gerald has chosen to get away from it all for now.
Gerald in tears? Probably but privately since it is apparent that both celebrities seem to be really hurting deep inside after a dramatic twist of events in what should have been a fairy tale ending which many had hoped for.
