The POC should be scrapped and replaced with another department preferably one with more authority, more funding, more public and private awareness and connects with everyday people.

The Philippines needs to build world class training centers throughout the country and staff them with coaches and trainers that know what they’re doing, which isn’t that difficult.

The government should hire the country’s most successful athletes to coach future Olympians. The country should put Manny Pacquiao in charge of the overall program and chief coach of the Boxing Squad. Lydia De Vega should be in charge of the Track and Field. Dan Inosanto in charge of the Martial Arts team. The best basketball players in charge of the basketball team and so on.

Put the country’s best athletes in charge of the National Sports/Athletic Program and truly support it. Let them promote it as a direct path to success and a way out of poverty and I’ll bet they won’t have any problems with recruiting talented athletes!

Let’s think about this for a minute, the Philippines has about 1/3 the population of the USA at 100 million, that’s a huge talent pool! If someone laid down the foundation and built a proper sports program, there’s no reason why the Philippines can’t be right up there with the US, China, Russia, Japan and S. Korea in every Olympics and be the contry to beat in every SEA Games!
